8 Last-Minute Halloween Costumes (New Orleans Edition)

One Halloween costume idea is to go as Edwin and Trina Edwards from "The Governor's Wife."

If you're a Halloween procrastinator like me, you're probably freaking out right now. There are just hours left to find the perfect costume and you have nothing. I know the feeling because I always choose my Halloween costumes at the last minute.

The good news is New Orleans is full of inspiration for easy Halloween costumes. Louisiana is home to many colorful characters who provide great inspiration for last-minute ensembles. Here are some costume ideas, inspired by some well-known Louisianians, for you procrastinators out there:

Dr. John

James Demaria Productions/nitetripper.com

Find a cool jacket and pair it with a collared shirt. Since Dr. John knows how to accessorize, make sure you add some necklaces and a hat. Put on some sunglasses to up the cool factor.

Fleurty Girl

Twitter.com/FleurtyGirl

To channel local celebrity Lauren Thom (aka Fleurty Girl), wear jeans, a Fleurty Girl shirt and a red wig.

Edwin and Trina Edwards from “The Governor's Wife”

A&E

Have you seen "The Governor's Wife" on A&E? In case you haven't, former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards and his wife, Trina, have a reality show now. The interesting thing is Trina is 50 years younger than Edwin. This is a great costume idea for a couple, and it's super timely.

Kermit Ruffins

BASIN STREET RECORDS

Kermit Ruffins always looks cool and casual. Pair a blazer with jeans, a nice shirt and a cool tie. Add a hat and carry around a trumpet.

Billy Joel at Jazz Fest

BILLYJOEL.COM

Remember when Billy Joel performed at Jazz Fest with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band? And then Joel wore the hat for a bit? This is an easy costume if you have a similar hat. Wear all black and put "Preservation Hall" on the hat.

The Guys from “Duck Dynasty”

A&E

It's all about the beard for this costume. I'm guessing there will be a lot of "Duck Dynasty" costumes out there this year, so this look isn't super creative, but it's simple if you can find the correct beard. People will know exactly who you are, especially if you go as a group.

Drew Brees

WIKIMEDIA COMMONS

You probably already have a Drew Brees jersey so add some workout gear. Find a helmet and carry around a football.

Louis Armstrong

BIOGRAPHY.COM

Wear your favorite black suit with a white shirt and bow tie. Carry around a trumpet and smile a lot. Extra points if you perfect Louis Armstrong's famous voice.

Happy Halloween, NOLA!
